Week 13...

March 26-April 1
3.26.10     Hot date tonight. We went to a surprise party for David's big 30th at Carraba's, then walked around the mall, kid-less. Nice :)

3.27.10     Have you ever in your life seen a cuter foot stuffed into a flipflop? I haven't ;)

3.28.10     Krew crawled into this box, instead of going around it to get a toy on the other side. He thought he was pretty smart, till he piled himself up when he tried to get out.

3.29.10     Day at the park with Sarah and the boys. Kam was Graham's baby sitter and he took it very seriously. Too cute!

3.30.10     Check out his tippy toes. I just loved it. He wanted in that box soooo bad.

3.31.10     Because of the tippy toes yesterday, I decided it was probably time to move the old crib down a few inches. I know it is just a matter of time before he learns to crawl out of it, but for now, this should do the trick.

4.01.10     April fool's day was crazy clothes day at school for Kam, so we went for the backwards look. He is growing up too fast.

Week 12...

3.19.10    Sewing day with my mom. So fun!

3.20.10    First straw experience. He figured it out right away and couldn't get enough. He loved it!

3.21.10    It almost makes it ok for Daddy to go on a trip, as long as he comes home with presents ;)

3.22.10    Figuring out the crawl thing. He is sooooo close to getting it, he just needs to figure out how to get his hands and legs working together!

3.23.10     Kindergarten registration. I can't believe Kam is that old already. He is so excited and is already counting down the days to start, let's be honest though, somedays I count down too ;)

3.24.10     Lazy day today with lots of leapster time. At least it's a little bit educational, right? I am pretty sure this pictures was taken around 2 pm and he is still in his jammies. Mother of the year...

3.25.10     9 month check up today. The little man weighs 19 lbs (25%), 29" tall (77%), and 98% in his huge noggin. My cute little bobble head :)

Week 11....

March 12-18
3.12.10     The 3 stooges at Ali's soccer game. These boys are trouble ;)

3.13.10     Snow. Again. Where is spring??? Yuck.

3.14.10     Gram and Poppy stopped by today for a visit. Kam wasn't feeling well, so Gram read him books while he hung out in bed.

3.15.10     My mom took some pictures of the boys today. I think they turned out pretty stinkin' cute-but really, how could they not with a face like that?!?

3.16.10     This kid LOVES to eat his socks. Just like a puppy.

3.17.10     It was a beautiful day today, so the boys and I walked to the park.

3.18.10     YUM. Sweet Tooth Fairy cupcakes for our bunco dessert at mom's tonight. So yum.

Week 10...

March 5-11
3.05.10     This kid is just too cute to not be my picture of the day. Stop growing please...

3.06.10     Grocery shopping today.  My biggest helper emptied and tasted all of the bags while I put all of it away.

3.07.10     Happy Birthday Sarah! We went over for cake and ice cream tonight. Yum!

3.08.10     My first attempt at a haircut for the little man. Just a little trim, we will leave the real haircut to the experts.

3.09.10     Check out the new cheese. He can't get enough of it and neither can I :)

3.10.10     Kam LOVES banana bread and is always so excited when he spots some old bananas in our house, so today he helped me make a couple loaves. However, it wouldn't be Kam if he didn't use his awesome imagination to turn it into a pirate fight...complete with captain hook ;)

3.11.10     The big cheese, one more time. He just makes me smile. Love him.

Week 9....

February 26- March 4

2.26.10     My Dad and the kids came for a visit...Krew could not stop staring at his goatee!

2.27.10     Kam's first Jazz game was a big hit, but I think he may have been more impressed with the snowcones and treats than the actual game ;)

2.28.10     Yummy breakfast at Cracker Barrel before Dad and the kids head home.

3.01.10     Echocardiogram today. Everything seems to be getting better and better. I am finally at a low-normal range in heart efficiency...Yay for me!!

3.02.10     YUM...Girl scout cookie time. Good thing the ol' ticker is back to normal...I may just eat me a whole box ;)

3.03.10     Such a fun day spent shopping and eating with no kids or husbands...I am so lucky to have THE BEST sister-in-laws. PS...I tried sushi and it wasn't as awful as I imagined ;)

3.04.10     This little man can't get enough of the barstool obstacle course. You should see him duck under the low bars army-crawl style, nothing gets in this little guy's way.

Seriously?!? Another hospital stay...

It seems like we are having a streak of bad luck at our house. Over the weekend, we got to stay at the hospital again. Who does this?!? Apparently it was from two seperate things too. The first visit the docs think that Krew had a bacterial infection which spread to his blood. This cleared up, but then he caught some stomach flu and dehydrated himself once again. This kid is going to kill me ;) He is a stinker and when he doesn't feel good, he just shuts down. You CAN NOT force anything down him. Believe me, I tried and tried.

Krew started out throwing up on Thursday. I could not get him to keep anything down. I called the doc that night and he told me to stop trying for 3-4 hours (that this might let his stomach settle long enough) then to give him tiny amounts at a time. So we had a long night and then by Friday morning he still didn't want much at all. So we went in for our 4th doctor's visit in two weeks. After looking him over, the doctor didn't think he looked too bad, but had us get him some labs done just in case. While we waited, I headed home and tried my hardest to get the little guy to drink anything. I knew he was dehydrated, but he was acting happy and playing so I didn't think the labs would be a big deal. The doctor's office called back around 6:00 that night and told me I needed to get him to the hospital. It was not our normal doctor that called and he was pretty vague so the only thing that stood out to me was "get him to the hospital and his labs look bad". So I was freaking out, to say the least.

Once we were in our room, the on call doctor came over to check Krew out. After looking at him, he was a little confused by the lab results because he just didn't act as sick as his labs said he was. He decided he wanted to double check the numbers, so while they were putting in his IV, they got some blood too. The things that where alarming were his co2 and his blood sugar (this was really low).  After about 30 minutes the lab results were back and they had not changed from the first set. I immediately think the worst and assume he must have something awful, but the doctor reassured me that his body was probably just in starvation mode from not really getting back to normal from last weeks stay and now the vomiting, and that we were probably just unlucky.

The next day, Krew still wouldn't eat much but was finally drinking about half of his normal. That afternoon we had another set of labs drawn. I had a feeling they were going to send us home, but was scared because I didn't want to end up back there again in a few days. The labs came back perfect this time, so they set us up an appointment on Monday with our real doctor then discharged us and sent us on our way.

Once we were home, he started to eat and drink a little better. He was fully hydrated now, so it was nice to not be so obsessed with whether he had peed or not ;) We all slept a lot better that night without hourly vitals and beeping IV machines. Sunday he finally started to want to eat and drink, but still not completely normal. By Monday, he was even better. The doctor's check up went well and the doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned with his weird labs. He did say that if he ends up dehydrated again soon, we will need to start digging a little deeper to see if there is a more serious cause. For now, he just thinks he had a stomach bug that was completely unrelated to last weeks sickness and we are just unlucky. So I am REALLY ready for a break. No more hospitals or doctors for a long long time. I am looking into getting him a bubble to live in this winter ;)
Have you ever seen anything cuter?! His little hospital gown was too sweet.

I think he was used to his hosital cage this time around, so he slept like a champ.

He thought he was the bomb-diggity when we went for a little walk in the wagon ;)

Headed home. He was sooooooo mean to the nurses. They could hardly even talk to him without him grunting or yelling at them. Poor kid has been through alot lately ;)

Our stay at the hospital...

Last week, Krew decided to give me a panic attack. It all started with a trip to the doc for a goopy eye (this was Friday). While we were there, the doc pointed out that on top of an eye infection, Krew's left ear was also really infected. He had not pulled on it, no fevers, anything. This kiddo is just too happy, even with a bad ear infection ;) So we started his ammoxicilin that night. By Sunday morning, he was starting to really act sick. He spiked a fever of 103. I called the doc and they said to give the antibiotics some time to work and in the meantime rotate motrin and tylonel every 3 hours to keep the fever down.

Monday afternoon he was worse. He didn't want to eat or drink much and his fever was staying around 102-103 even with treating it. I called the doc again. They said to just make sure he keeps drinking. This was much easier said than done.  By Monday night his fever had spiked 104.3 and we could not get it to down. He was getting lethargic and could not even hold up his big bean. By the time Spence got home from work, we decided he probably needed to be seen. He was sooooooo sick. I was a train wreck. Why would his fever not go down with motrin/tylonel?!?

The after hours doc didn't seem too concerned about his fever when we got there. I think he thought that we had not been treating it like we should have. He checked his ears and turns out it was worse plus the right ear was now infected. His throat was also pretty raw, and he had basically no spit in his mouth. He decided to change his antibiotic and asked us to hang out for a few minutes to see if his fever would drop at all. We attempted to give Krew a popsicle to help the fever out a bit. He didn't want it and after 20 minutes the fever was still hovering around 103.9. By now, the doc was starting to get a bit concerned. He gave him a shot in the leg of some high powered antibiotic then had us go over to the hospital to get some blood work done. He started to talk bacterial infection and I could not stop thinking about bacterial meningitis. Ugh. I always think the worst when it comes to sick kids. I hate that I do it but I can't help it ;) I was freaking out to say the least!

After the blood work, we went back over to the doctor's office to wait for the results. They took his temperature while we waited and it was right around 104. The doctor wanted him to get a dose of tylonel on top of the motrin (it had been almost 3 hrs since the motrin) to try and stay on top of the fever. The cute nurse brought it in and we tried to give it to Krew, but by now he was so out of it and just choked and barfed his guts up on everything. Especially on Spencer. He was covered. So by now the doc decided to have us spend a night in the hospital to get some fluids in Krew, and try and get the fever under control.

Once we got over to the hospital Krew started to perk up a little. He was not a fan of the iv and tried to pull it out several times. They also decided to go with the suppositories for the tylonel. He didn't like that either, but at least he couldn't throw it up ;) After the fluids got started he started to feel a little better and went to sleep. This was about 3 am by now. It was a LONG night. The nurse took his vitals often. His blood pressure was really high, along with his pulse, and breaths per minute. He was basically panting. The nurse checked his pulse three different times before she decided it had to be right. I think the first one was 210 bpm, then she finally accepted it at 190. The normal heart rate for a 14 month old is about 110-120 beats per minute. His was racing.

The blood tests came back all over the place. His white blood cells were all off along with other stuff I didn't understand. He had a bad infection, we just don't know where or what from. His ear infection was a secondary thing now. That next morning the doctor told us he wanted us to stay at least one more night, then we would talk the next morning. He had more blood tests that afternoon and another dose of antibiotics. He was only peeing about 30% of what he should be, so he had to stay on the iv fluids too.

By the Wednesday morning when the doctor came in, Krew was feeling much better and his fever was under control. The doc ordered more blood work and another round of antibiotics. The doctor came back to check him out one last time around 1 pm. He decided we could head home. His blood work was still not quite right, but trending in the right direction. He sent us home with a check up appointment on Friday, a powerful antibiotic for 7 days, and some things to watch for in Krew.

It has been one week since the madness, and Krew is much better. He is still not 100%, but getting close! He is much happier and is starting to eat like normal. Sick kids freak me out and I am so glad he is back to his old sweet self again! He did develop a little attitude after his hospital stay though. He does not like to be messed with and now he will let you know it. He was so sick of the nurses and doctors by the time we left there that he would start to wimper and whine whenever he saw anyone in scrubs. His check up on Friday went well and his ears are finally starting to show some improvements. We have a blood work follow-up today and hopefully all of that will be back to normal too.  This little guy sure knows how to give us a scare!
This was taken on my phone right before we were admitted into the hospital. He was miserable :(

Night #2. Sleeping in his hospital cage. He was not a fan of this bed.

He wanted to rip this IV out of his hand, so we tried to keep it covered so he would not think about it. Didn't really work.

Day #2, still feeling yucky but much better than the first night!

The last day. He was soooo much better by now. He wanted to get down and tear things up and he hated being attached to the IV post.  (I know I look just beautiful, but that is what 2 nights in a hospital does to ya ;))

Finally a good scrub down...he was loving the bath but didn't dig the plastic bag covering his IV.

By now he was getting pretty pooped, but still a happy little man.

Those baths really take it out of you ;)

Sweet drooly boy once again!
